GoCMS (working title) has hit a milestone of being somewhat production ready!
There's still quite a bit of work to do - especially given that this is my first project ever in Go; I've dabbled a bit here and there, and became familiar and comfortable with the syntax quite quickly, but am still quite inexperienced in terms of how the entire ecosystem works. Go is very much a language designed to work with the tools around it, quite different from most languages. Even more so than Java - which was surprising.
That said, there will soon be plans for figuring out how to get the three components separated - as the codebase consists of three modules:
- Core: The code that makes GoCMS work, including the various modules that drive things.
- Official: Simply put, a module of services that add features that aren't necessary, such as the Documents service that adds support for documents (what's used to publish this article!)
- Application: This is the BYO aspect; right now it's tightly coupled into the codebase but the idea is that you'd copy the admin and web folders into your project, and starting with the relatively small and simple starter template for your main.go, put it all together into a working baseline.
It's quite a lofty goal - though I do have plans to use this tool as it currently stands to build some websites for clients in the (hopefully near) future as I feel it's quite polished enough for this purpose.
For now, it'll live here, possibly evolving into a personal blog should this project keep going, getting it's own site, a new, catchier name. Once I get image uploads working I will be able to put some screenshots of the administration panel; as I'm quite proud of it. Apologies in advance - much like this site, it does not yet support dark mode but I assure you it will come soon.
Here's to the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They're not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They push the human race forward.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
